5th in our series ‘Climate impact on Building Performance’ – Pier House
Completed in 2022, the 5th in our 8-part series is another project overlooking Roaring Water Bay. A replacement dwelling in timber frame with a fibre cement roof and wall finish responding to the exposed site conditions. Both the Annual Heat Demand and Heat Load responses are quite consistent throughout the island of Ireland. Although having a high form factor, the mild climate with excellent solar access enables some relaxation in the approach to envelope. A conventional MVHR with direct electric heating was the cost optimal solution. A PV array offsets the direct hot water production in this dwelling. BER: A1 (11.04 kWh/m2.a)
