Our newest nearly completed passive house -the story so far….

Situated alongside the coast, this, our newest and nearly completed passive house, actively engages and enjoys its surroundings. The design celebrates breath-taking coastal views whilst sitting comfortably within the rugged West Cork landscape.

The preliminary assessments of this contemporary take on the traditional Irish long house reflecting the maritime location and the iconic traditional boat houses, indicates that this dwelling will far exceed the statutory nZEB requirements.

Building materials and construction typologies have been carefully selected to reduce the embodied carbon in the dwelling. The use of timber frame construction and wood fibre insulation has contributed significant carbon sequestration and the use of GGBS concrete for the insulated foundation system saved 5 kgCO2e/m2.

The embodied carbon assessment indicates that the dwelling already achieves the RIAI 2030 Climate Challenge target metrics and is indeed lower than the improved target of 450 kgCO2e/m2.
