3 Certified Passive Houses for 2024!
We are delighted to confirm our 3rd certified Passive House of 2024!
Our Cork Harbour project has achieved Passive House Plus Certification, producing as much energy as it consumes via onsite renewables. This renewable energy is provided by a PV array at car deck level and heat pump technologies for heating and hot water generation. The PV covered carport by Solar Structures incorporates unique bifacial panels, generating power from both sides, via both direct and reflected sunlight. The panels are also semi-transparent, permitting dappled light permeate down into the main house via rooflights on the deck, generating continually changing shadow patterns throughout the day! An integrated Eddi system redirects any excess energy to supplement hot water production or for EV charging. Read more here.
Our Marina Passive House and Meath Farmstead Passive House projects also achieved Passive House Certification this year!
Why Passive House?
The Passive House standard is an independent, voluntary standard with almost 35 years proven results. The benefits are many, such as drastically reduced energy consumption, enhanced indoor comfort and significantly improved air quality. Site specific design, attention to detail, high levels of insulation, airtight construction, and energy-efficient windows, result in comfortable temperatures year-round, with minimal reliance on heating. Not only do Passive Houses have remarkably low operational carbon, efficiencies in the design process can ensure significant reductions in embodied carbon.
Why Certification?
Opting for a certified Passive House ensures adherence to rigorous standards for energy efficiency, comfort, and sustainability. Certified designs are 3rd party assessed, guaranteeing that they meet specific criteria for insulation, airtightness, and ventilation. This certification provides assurance of quality and performance, leading to lower energy costs and a reduced environmental impact. Moreover, certified Passive Houses have been proven to have higher resale values and can enhance your home’s marketability.
