East Cork Passive House

Completed in Autumn 2025, this three-bedroom Passive House dwelling is set just north of Midleton in East Cork. The elevated site commands expansive views to the south and southwest across rolling hills and open farmland.

The house is composed of two interlocking volumes. An east–west oriented wing, running parallel to the road, accommodates the main living spaces. A perpendicular north–south wing contains the bedroom accommodation, creating a sheltered junction between the two forms. At this knuckle, a glazed ‘pop-out’ forms a southwest-facing seating area off the entrance hall, framing views and drawing natural light deep into the plan.

Responding to the character of the locality, where roadside and garden walls are a defining feature, the east and north elevations are deliberately restrained. Minimal openings and extended landscape walls create a sense of solidity and privacy toward the road and neighbouring property to the north.

In contrast, the south and west elevations open up to the landscape, with generous glazing maximising daylight, solar gain and views, while providing direct access to the private garden.
